ANTITRUST STATEMENT

As participants in this meeting, we need to be mindful of the constraints of antitrust laws. There shall be no discussions of agreements or concerted actions that may restrain competition. This prohibition includes the exchange of information concerning individual prices, rates, coverages, market practices, claims settlement practices, or any other competitive aspect of an individual company’s operation. Each participant is obligated to speak up immediately for the purpose of preventing any discussion falling outside these bounds.

Meeting Minutes

  • Antitrust Accepted

  • Meeting Minutes Reviewed and accepted

  • 3D Printing Review

    • We reviewed the information that the committee has gathered through the different presentations.

      • At this time, the shops are not printing the 3D parts, and may never print the parts because it would be hard to certify the correct maintenance would be done on the printers and the materials used to the shop level. The shops may print tools and items that are needed to work on a vehicle.

      • At this time, we do not know the type of certifications or license needed for data, so we cannot come up with a standard. We may need to define 3D part as a type of part.

        • Part Type Code list does not have a value for 3D parts at this time, but we do not know the descriptions that are possible for adding 3D part. It may be simple 3D part or 3D part could have different categories that we need to capture. Without this information it is too early to add to this code list.

  1. 3D printing is still too new for CIECA to be able to come up with data standards, it is better to be ahead of the curve than behind, but 3D printing needs to be revisited in a year to see what advancements are made.
  • Rebecca will be presenting 3D printing at CONNEX and as members of this committee we need to stay in touch with the market and bring this back to the committee as needed.

  • Electrification (EV)

    • This is a hot topic right now

    • The Recycled Parts and Inventory committee has been focused on the EV technology for the past year, it was decided a few months ago that the committee needed to be its own committee. At this time, CIECA has reached out to find chairs to help Ginny with the committee and CIECA will send out marketing on this new committee soon.

  1. EV will be handled in its own committee and not part of the Emerging Technology committee
  • Third Party (Alexa, Google, Apple, aftermarket platforms)

    • This opens up an interesting realm, because there is Google and Alexa that listen to information from the car which is opposed to information going out of the car.

    • Privacy is huge aspect

      • Some shops are exploring ideas of stickers on cars to be able to cover all of the cameras when vehicles are in for repair are the business of the people getting data from the cameras. Cameras are often turned off and put in service mode when repairs are being done, but there are times when the vehicle is complete, and you don’t want people seeing what's in a shop.

      • There is a certain expectation to privacy, yes, it is a customer’s vehicle, but it is also a private business and considerations need to be made.

      • The role of CIECA is to help facilitate communication standards of turning the system on or off, or recalibrating it, or brining all of the needs to be documented. How will technicians know the systems on a vehicle, that is electronic communication needed.

      • The third party or infotainment systems, if a vehicle is not put in service mode, a customer may turn the vehicle on when it is setting in a shop, which causes emissions.

  1. CIECA will work to get speakers to help in the areas of Third-Party Privacy and things that a shop needs to communicate and what needs to be communicated to a shop.
