ANTITRUST STATEMENT

As participants in this meeting, we need to be mindful of the constraints of antitrust laws. There shall be no discussions of agreements or concerted actions that may restrain competition. This prohibition includes the exchange of information concerning individual prices, rates, coverages, market practices, claims settlement practices, or any other competitive aspect of an individual company’s operation. Each participant is obligated to speak up immediately for the purpose of preventing any discussion falling outside these bounds.

Agenda

  • Antitrust Agreement and Meeting minutes acceptance

  • Review OEM telematic systems

  • Work through CIECA impacts of Telematics and recommendations.

Meeting Minutes

  • Antitrust Accepted

  • Meeting Minutes Accepted

  • Telematics Discussion

    • What Privacy or PI data is evolved in Telematics?

      • Telematic Services has different privacy for different vendors, for example OnStar has different Privacy for Cadillac than GMC. The Privacy between brands are not published at this time.

      • If a Customer declines the Telematic Services, does the system still capture the data? For example, if a customer does not pay for the service, does the vehicle still alert when the tire is flat, the message just does not go to the customer? Or if the Service is not accepted by the customer, can the find vehicle be used if the vehicle is stolen?

        • How are Customers offered telematics? Many people are ready to get out of the dealership with their new car by the time they spend in the dealership and do not want to go over the telematics. Some Telematics in the vehicle reach out to the customer when driving.

        • Acceptance rate of Telematic services are not high.

          • The General concern of some customers is that the Vehicle will track them and report this information and it may harm them in some way.

            • The Phone that people carry on them is more active in tracking than people believe. During COVID, the phones were used to show how much traffic was reduced on highways and to gather information on peoples behaviors during COVID.

            • The Guardian App is an app for Kids to keep an eye on their family members, even when they are in a vehicle with someone else. So if someone is driving to fast or if an accident occurs, the App will notify.

            • Life 360 provides similar services to the Guardian App, as far as speeds, but does not provide accident notification.

    • What information would a Repair Facility need about Telematics?

      • The Telematics information is part of the OEM Repair Procedures and can be looked up. Also it is good to talk to the owner about any Telematics being used on the vehicle.

      • It may be beneficial for the Repair Facility to get Telematic information as to what Airbags went off and what Telematic Sensors are not responding to be able to help provide information on the Estimate and the Repair.

      • The Log of Events on Telematics could be useful during the pre Scan, such as there was a recall on Airbags that was not corrected and the Airbag did not deploy.

        • Some Telematic systems add a date and Time to the log, when others do not

        • Some systems clear the history/Code when the code is fixed, but the history could still be valuable.

    • The FNOL message can use Telematics to contact the correct First Responders, if an Ambulance will be needed, if a Tow Truck will be needed or if the car is a total loss and Salvage contacted.

      • Crash Data is different than Repair (SCAN) data

    • Maintaining the History of repairs on a vehicle throughout its life would be beneficial to insure accuracy of repairs. This may be a concept to take the the industry.

  • OEM Telematics

    • Frank provided a list of all OEM and the telematic URLs for those.

    • Paulette went to each of the URLS and compiled a spreadsheet to show what types of Telematics were being used to help with the research.

      • Should we share the Spreadsheet with the industry?

        • This would have to be something that we added a disclaimer to that as of a certain date that these were reviewed and the availability.

        • We would have to revisit this document for review.

        • We would need to allow every OEM the opportunity to validate the information in the document.

        • If we stay as a CIECA document it would be a Third Party document.

    • The Committee mentioned getting this information in front of the OEM Roundtable.

      • At this time, Chris Caris, the Chair of OEM Roundtable will bet with Paul and Paulette about availability to speak at Phoenix in January.

    • CIECA Committee Documents can be accessed on the Confluence Page, which can be accessed through the http://cieca.com page. If you have any problems getting this data, please contact Paulette.

  • Do Customers search for Telematics features when buying a vehicle?

    • Paulette will look to see if there are any sites in the car comparison world that provides comparisons.

Great Meeting Everyone, Have a great Thanksgiving.
