Minutes

  • The Antitrust statement was read and the meeting minutes were accepted.

  • CONNEX Agenda Topic Planning Chart: Paul created a chart for business and technology topics for the conference. It is divided into three categories: CIECA internal, collision industry and general industry. The goal is to have a balanced agenda that provides meaningful content for business and technical attendees and represents CIECA, the collision industry and the broader Industry.

  • CONNEX Presenters

    • Susanna Gotsch, CCC: We’ve reached out to Susanna to speak but haven’t heard back from her.

    • Greg Horn, Parts Trader: Paul suggested Greg Horn as a potential speaker. Don E. said he is an excellent speaker and highly recommends him.

    • Ryan Mandall, Mitchell International: Potential speaker who is familiar with the industry and worked in multiple segments.

    • Eric Schultz, ALLDATA: Eric is unavailable to speak this year at the conference.

    • Pete Tagliapietra, DataTouch: Paul and Stacey talked to Pete and he offered to speak about the state of data security in the collision industry.

    • Lidar: Ginny offered to share names of contacts.

    • 3D Printing: Don P. will share name of contact from Stratus.

    • EV Panel: We discussed having Lucid Motors and Rivian both present.

    • EV Battery: Don, Ginny and Sandy had suggested having someone talk about the challenges associated with recycling EV batteries. Don P. will talk to Jennifer re: contact; Ginny will reach out to Redwood Materials re: Ford pilot; Don E. will share contact. The PR firm for Ray Hatch from Quest Resource Management Group reached out to Stacey about possibly sharing information in this area.

    • PAVE: Ginny will share contact.

    • Ranken Technical College: We talked about the possibility of John Helterbrand and/or someone from Enterprise sharing information. Don P. said it is a relevant topic to talk about the skills needed for ADAS/calibration. One possibility is to having someone from Hunter Engineering present as well since their equipment is at the college. Don E. will also share contact information for Doug Irish who works at a technical college to potentially speak.

    • Tom Julius from Car-Part.com suggested having someone speak about ADAS/Calibrations safety system validations. Paul Barry and Tim Ronak suggested CIECA member Greg Peeters from CAR ADAS.

    • Don E. suggested having Ryan Taylor from AMP Bureau and BodyShop Booster present.

    • Tom Julius recommended having someone present about AI-who, what and where is AI being used today? What’s next? What is happening beyond the familiar collision AI companies? We discussed having an update from the co-chairs of the CIECA Emerging Technologies Committee—Frank Terlep and Gene Lopez—at the conference and including information about AI. We can also ask Jonathan Pyle from Dents.co about his interest in presenting.

    • Jimmy Spears from Tractable offered to present on the standards needed for AI/machine learning/computer vision.

    • Tom Julius recommended having a presentation on supply chain industry trends. The committee felt that although it is a timely topic, it might not fit with the theme of the conference this year.

    • Frank Terlep from Auto Techcelerators offered to present on vehicle data: where and how does it "play" in the collision, claims and insurance world? The committee felt this would differ from Pete’s presentation. Overall, the committee felt that Frank is an excellent presenter and is knowledgeable about multiple industry issues as well as CIECA.

    • This led into a discussion about having new speakers at the conference as well as new CIECA members if possible.

    • Tim Ronak shared contact information for Glenn Sanders at Wards Intelligence who has spoken on autonomous vehicles. Ginny has read Glenn’s articles and felt his knowledge base might not be in-depth enough for CIECA conference attendees.

    • Tom Julius suggested setting up an area for conference attendees to view/experience new technologies. A new sponsorship category has been created this year that includes an option to purchase a table at the conference to showcase a company’s product/service.

    • Don P. suggested a presentation focused on insurance carriers coming into a digital world. Stacey will reach out to CIECA member Lemonade.

Great meeting. Thank you everyone for your input!
