Minutes

  • The Antitrust statement was read and the meeting minutes were accepted.

  • Member Bulletin: A CIECA Members' Bulletin was created to educate members about the Parts & Materials Procurement messages. The messages were originally discussed during the Emerging Technologies Committee when the committee looked into the supply chain issues that are currently impacting the collision industry. After analysis, it was determined that CIECA has the necessary data for the different types of vehicle parts in the Parts and Materials Procurement messages. Members' Bulletins can be used in the future to send targeted communications to members.

  • CIECAST Webinars 2022

    • March 24th MSO/Network CIECAST: We shared the questions with the committee that we asked the MSOs/Networks during the CONNEX Conference. Don brought up that technology is being used internally and externally to communicate with suppliers, vendors, etc. as well as customers. During the webinar, we will discuss the challenges with this and what CIECA could potentially do to help address them. Dustin talked about the customer piece, educating the populous, and how CIECA can help and potentially make it more understandable.

    • Dustin had trouble accessing the last GoTo Webinar and asked if there had been feedback regarding this. Paul said that we have switched to Teams for many things but GoTo Webinar has some features, like registration, that are helpful. Phil suggested we look into Teams to see if those same features are available.

    • April Technical CIECAST: This webinar will focus on the 2022R1 as well as provide an update about the new CIECA API Standards and the work coming out of the Architecture Committee. Paulette said there isn’t too much new in regard to BMS, only one code list change and some spelling updates found during the QA. Don asked if everyone is currently using JSON. Paul explained that we are still in the early stages of the process of developing the standards and how they are structured and we still have a long way to go. JSON will not replace the BMS Standards, but is a different language that can be used. For those using XML Standards, there will be no changes. Paulette said companies won’t have to use as much data in the messages with JSON. Don described it as a simplified message. We were also talking about sharing information during the webinar about the CIECA Simplified initiative, which will be an ongoing process to access the standards. We will invite members to ask questions and share feedback. We will also ask Dan Webster, Mike Hastings and Andy Bober to share information about some features process, such as Stoplight. Originally, we were talking about having the executive committee provide an update during the webinar about CIECA’s strategic plan. Phil said that we should wait until we are further along in the process of developing the API Standards. Paulette said that the committee is working on a proof of concept. She also shared that STAR offered to share their expertise with CIECA and collaborate.

    • Long-term impacts of EV battery: During another committee meeting, Don, Sandy and Ginny were talking about the end of life of EV batteries and where they go. Recyclers, in particular, are looking at ways to address this critical topic. Don said we could ask Audi and Mercedes-Benz at CIC about the process and learn more about OEs being part of the solution. The committee was asked if this was a topic for a CIECAST or CONNEX. Paulette said that it would be a good topic for CONNEX since there could be feedback from all industry segments in attendance. Don and Kelly agreed.

  • CONNEX

    • We are looking into inviting sponsors/members to showcase new technologies during the CIECA CONNEX Conference.

  • Other Committees: Paulette shared that the Emerging Technologies Committee was discussing having an AI task force look into how AI is being used in the industry and the potential impacts to CIECA Standards.

Great meeting. Thank you everyone for your input!
