Meeting Minutes
Everyone was welcomed to the meeting. The antitrust was read and agreed upon. The minutes from previous meetings were approved.
The focus of this meeting was on the update from the Revenue Generation Committee. Clint Marlow attended and discussed his one-page PowerPoint, which highlighted the committee’s feelings and pending proposal to the Ex-Comm/Board. The two-dimensional chart showed Effort and Benefit.
The #1 option was CIECA IP. The process is to inform the company of CIECA’s IP and membership requirements. The next would be a cease and desist order. The process is expensive for both parties and takes a considerable amount of time to reach a resolution.
The #2 option is Membership. This would focus on new companies entering the market and member recruitment and marketing.
The #3 option is sponsorship of a CIECAST. An idea would be to offer a free CIECA website banner ad for a week. This would be a benefit and may drive more people to our website and potentially create a market for website banners.
Included in their discussion was CONNEX and the potential of sponsoring events such as a breakfast or the keynote speaker.
CIECA Compliant was discussed next. The issue of validation of compliance is one that would be difficult to define. Is it a message, or a company, or? A definition of compliance has been complete for strict compliance and an extendable version of compliance. This seemed to parallel Heavy and Lite Certification thoughts.
Out of the compliance discussion began a talk on having an individual level of certification. The ideas discussed were available video training with an associated test. The program was thought to include a renewal certification process.
The idea of a CIECA University was then discussed. The main issues were that it takes a considerable effort to put together and to maintain and manage.
This will remain a topic for the next meeting; it was important to take time to discuss the upcoming CIECAST presentations.
08/11/2020 Importance of OEM certifications. The webinar is focused on the topic of OEM certifications and their importance. Stacey has been working with Connor Smith from CARSTAR on the presentation and the AMi quiz. From the last meeting, we captured the Calibration Committee’s recommendation on where to locate OEM procedures on their websites, and to note the frustration from repairers on locating these documents.
09/15 or 09/22 Disruptive Technologies. Frank Terlep and Jake Rodenroth agreed to give the same presentation they gave during CIC. Stacey is working with them to “CIECAtize” it. A few ideas were suggested. This included Web Services and JSON, which were addressed previously by CIECA. Also noted was that disruptive technologies could be a forum to stress standards.
10/16 Cybersecurity for Repair Facilities. The webinar is set for David Willet and Mike Anderson to present about cybersecurity. Stacey confirmed with David on the date.
11/17 OEM EV Sharing. Stacey was successful in getting a contact at Ford to talk about EV vehicles. The topic was discussed, and suggestions included EV repair issues, recycle issues, standardized repair of electric propulsion, and potential of standardized batteries.
Great Meeting !
