Background

  • Calibration Committee originated in January 2019 to define business workflows and information related to the calibration of vehicles, specifically ADAS and calibration requirements that are passing between parties as it related to the collision repair and related industries.

  • The goal of the committee is to develop and maintain messaging standards and codes aimed at calibration and the documentation of those procedures.

  • July 2020 the Calibration Committee had produced new workflows, Business Use Cases for Calibration and Scan in the Estimate and Repair Order(s) BMS Messages, and XML test instances and shared with the industry. The Calibration Committee was placed in maintenance mode at this time.

  • In the last several months industry leaders have reached out to CIECA looking for a solution to get more detailed itemized information through to the invoice. After review of the new request and requirements, it was determined that we needed to kick off the Calibration Committee again.

Objective: The committee’s objective is to review the workflows, BMS messages and data, code list and determine the new data that needs to be shared to reduce pain points the industry is experiencing.

Expected Outcome(s):

Impacted/Interested Industry Segments:

Problem Statement:

Scope:

Must have: Documentation for Proper Calibration (Screenshots) and how the calibration was done correctly.

  • Guided steps through the photo documentation to verify each step was done correctly.

  • Add Attachment Type Master Code List codes for better identification of pictures for this process.

Must have: Supporting documentation of prerequisites of proper Calibration and proper placement of targets

  • Vehicle Prep such as full fuel tank

  • Tire pressure correct

  • Stall Prep

Must have: List of sublet questions to verify they are doing the calibration correctly.

  • How can we electronically identify that a sublet did the calibration and completed correctly?

Must have: Calibration details to show in invoicing

  • More than one line for calibration invoice

  • Pre and Post Scan is not calibration, it is looking for an issue with calibration and verifying it is corrected.

Nice to have:

Not in scope: Estimating systems should have preset labor times for calibration for Vehicles.

  • If a part is damaged that involves a calibration, the calibration labor time should be added to the estimate and invoice.

Not in scope: Vehicle History File for the Repairs

  • History of the current repair-initiated calibration
