Benefits to Industry Segment

The extent to which the work by the committee can benefit the industry will ultimately drive the effectiveness of the committee.  Therefore, it is important to clearly define and list the benefits so that the members of the various industry segments can provide feedback on the importance of further work.  

The following is a list of possible industry benefits:

  • An accurate and efficient vehicle repair process

  • Improved accuracy and efficiency through an understanding and use of vehicle repair standards

  • An automated export and import models for repairing vehicles using standard terms, and thus eliminating current paper based processes

  • Enable repairers to reduce cycle appraisal and repair time by increased accuracy and quality of estimate data

  • The ability to reduce errors when data is exchanged between applications 

  • The elimination of redundant data entry

  • It is accessible to smaller scale companies and/or applications participating in the industry

  • Management of the standard by CIECA streamlines development, approval, revision, enhancement and publication

Assignment Services – assigns a task or project to be completed.

  • Information Exchange Types

    • Assignment Add Request/Response This message is to assign work requests/services to another party.  This includes vehicle damage claims, glass repairs, rental requests, and subrogation requests.

    • Reassignment

    • Assignment Change Request/Response This is the message is to cancel work requests/services to another party.  This includes vehicle damage claims and glass repair requests. 

    • Assignment Cancel Request/Response This message is to cancel work requests/services to another party.  This includes vehicle damage claims and glass repair requests.

    • Towing – Including Roadside Assistance

 Estimate Services – details of the needed repair or damage estimate, including parts and dollars.

  • Information Exchange Types

    • Vehicle Damage Estimate Add Request/Response This message is to send estimates back to the party making the assignment.  This includes vehicle damage claims and may include glass repairs.  This message may also be sent to salvage vendors.  Rental companies receive this message for use in estimating rental periods.

Invoice, Statement, and Remittance Services - to exchange the billing messages, invoice and the remittance messages. 

  • Information Exchange Types

    • Invoice Add Request/Response This is the message is an electronic invoice sent to the entity receiving the service or parts.  This message maybe an individual invoice, a batch of invoices, or a statement. 

    • Remittance Information Add Request/Response This is the message that can be in reply to an Invoice Add message.  It can also be in reply to a Statement Information Add message.  It is used as a Remittance Information Add message that communicates payment information.  The actual remittance (i.e. money movement) is transacted outside this message. 

  • Business Functionality

    • Procurement Statements, including credits 

Claims Services – messages designed to manage and coordinate coverage for all claims resulting from a single accident, relating all the information to one electronic high level claim folder.

  • Information Exchange Types

    • Claim Save Request/Response This message can be used to create or update a Claim.  Such a Claim may be the parent of an entire collection of related exposures.

  • Business Functionality

    • Manage a Claims Folder Parent for Multiple Claimants/Exposures/Suffixes

    • Provide Initial Claim Information

    • Provide Updated Claim Information 

All Response Messages:

They may be used to inform the sender that the message has been received.  This response message contains a code to indicate the recipients’ ability to use the message.  The codes are either “accept”, ”partial”, and “reject” as found in Application Status tab of the CIECA master code list.

They also may contains additional information in response to the Request message.

The message flows in the reverse path of the Request message, as noted in the business flow above.

Response message examples, without additional information, are included in a Generic Section of the Appendix C associated with this Implementation Guide.

Deliverables

The XML message deliverables are:

  • The messages above

  • An Implementation Guide (IG) to define the business information

  • Business use cases for system developers

Note: The new Schema will be a product of the Architecture Committee, and generated from the BMS changes approved by the committee.

Open API Deliverables:

At this time the Open API is still in Architecture. After Architecture releases the Guidelines, this committee may look at using JSON.

 

Resource Requirements

Staff  

Staff times for project support are included with CIECA membership for approved projects.  Staff time will include project management assistance as well as technical assistance.

Volunteer Time:

Business volunteers will be needed to identify business requirements of the message contents.  Representation from multiple areas of the business segment will make the message development more complete and better serve the entire industry.  Business volunteers will also be needed for the development of the Implementation Guides.

 Technical volunteers will be needed to complete the translation of business needs to the BMS representation of those business needs and work with Architecture in this integration.  Assistance will be made available from members of Architecture.

An industry cross segment was brought together to develop the messages in a standard format for appraisals and vehicle repair.  This included development of a single process for appraisals and vehicle repair.
