Minutes

  • Antitrust statement was read and the meeting minutes were accepted.

  • Video script: Paul, Paulette and Stacey are working on the draft video script and will share the next draft with the committee.

  • 2021 CIECAST Webinars Update:

    • May - Brady Bonner identified a speaker from Safelite to present on collision repair considerations and recalibration.

    • June - Audatex is scheduled to present about AI.

    • July - CCC is tentatively scheduled to present.

    • August - Jeff Peevy, I-CAR, is scheduled to present. Steve suggested including information about what I-CAR is doing to prepare for the new technology that will be in future vehicles.

    • September - no webinar will be held due to CONNEX.

    • October - Technical CIECAST: 2021R2

    • November: Possibly Brandon Laur, CCI, about information privacy.

  • CONNEX

    • MC - Bill Garoutte, NABC, is able to MC the event and Kim graciously offered to be on standby.

    • CIECA Day: Bill from NABC suggested asking the Charlotte mayor to name “CIECA Day” the same day as the Recycled Rides gifting. Stacey to follow up.

    • Tour - Hendrick Motorsports is still not open for a tour. The CONNEX Planning Committee was supportive of moving ahead with a tour of the NASCAR Hall of Fame museum and the Education Committee was in agreement.

    • Presenter Guide: Paul created informational brochure for presenters based on the one we currently use for the CIECAST webinars. Stacey will email it to all committee members for input.

    • Potential Confirmed Presenters: The committee reviewed the list of potential confirmed topics and presenters.

      • OEM Roundtable: John Eck is unavailable and Ford showed interest in presenting but currently has travel restrictions. Other OEMs contacted include BMW, Tesla, Rivian and Volkswagen. Phil suggested reaching out to Chrisa Hickey from OEConnection for OEM recommendations.

      • Development of CIECA API Standards: Paulette will present, possibly along with other committee participants/chairs.

      • Hendrick Motorsports: William from Axalta will help put in a speaker request for the conference. Ginny suggested having someone from the garage talk about the “10-second repair.” Paul suggested having someone from the simulation team speak. Steve said that would be a nice tie-in with CIECA.

      • Chuck Searles from AMi agreed to speak. Chuck had a 19-year career with Nissan and can bring some of that experience into his presentation topic. CIECA staff will meet with Chuck on 4/19 to discuss potential presentation topics.

      • Susanna Gotsch, CCC; and Mike Anderson, Collision Advice, are both already committed.

      • Sean Carey, SCG Management Consultants, agreed to speak. All agreed he is an excellent presenter. Kim mentioned that any presentation focusing on emerging trends in the industry would be of interest to attendees.

      • Stephen Applebaum would be very interested in speaking during CONNEX but is not available that week. He suggested reaching out to Alan Demers, President-Founder at InsurTech Consulting, and Vincent Romans.

      • Melissa Kwiatkowski from Driven Brands offered to look into a potential speaker from a local collision repair facility.

      • Mark Helvenston, IAA, recommended Fred Karlinsky, Co-Chair Insurance Regulatory & Transactions Practice at Greenberg Traurig, as a potential speaker. Steve said Fred is a great speaker. Stacey will provide Fred an overview of the conference and discuss potential presentation topics that are of interest to all segments of the industry.

      • Brandon Laur, Claims Corp (CCI), agreed to speak about information privacy and security.

      • James Chargo, BASF, is asking his supervisor if he can speak at conference and will provide potential topics for discussion.

      • Steve reached out to Brian Sullivan at Auto Insurance Report about potential speaker recommendations but magazine’s conference is the same week as CONNEX.

      • Steve suggested having a panel discussion with participants from the Emerging Technologies Data Standards Committee. The committee has great representation from several industry segments and can be used as an example of how CIECA committees are formed and how they work together toward a common purpose. Don was supportive of the idea and Ginny said that she enjoys being part of that committee. Kelly said that this might be a great CIECAST webinar topic as well.

      • Ginny shared an ARA article written by Bryan Mendel (spelling?) from Mitchell International talking about repair vs replace. Ginny will forward the article. Topic will be reviewed to see if this is more of a CIC presentation topic unless it focuses on how parts are ordered or how it affects all segments of the industry.

      • Insurance panel discussion: Stacey reached out to Clint Marlow for a potential presenter recommendation and will email Chris Evans, State Farm; Greg Best, California Casualty; and Russ Simms, NationwideSean Carey, SCG Management Consultants: The committee discussed possible topics for Sean to cover including virtual claims and AI. Sean wrote an article for Collision Repair Magazine that was forwarded to the committee.

      • Kim reached out to Michael Naoom about possibly speaking at the event.

      • Brandon Laur, CCI: Kim suggested there could be a business and technical presentation on information privacy.

      • Emerging Technologies panel discussion: The committee is still in its beginning stages and there will be more to cover as time progresses.

      • MSO panel discussion: We can ask Ashley Denison if she knows of any other CIOs to present. Steve offered to reach out to operational leaders.

      • Michael Anderson, Guidewire: Steve set up a meeting for Paul, Paulette and Stacey to talk to Michael on 4/27. He showed interest in presenting. Steve suggested looking for smaller companies as possible panelists.

      • OEM panel discussion: Don E. suggested including information about how to repair cars in 2025. Paul and Don P. both thought the discussion could include repair standards.

      • Paint & Materials: We haven’t heard back from BASF yet. Tom McGarry shared a contact from Axalta who we’re going to talk to. We can also reach out to 3M.

      • Don P. asked if we could reach out to the Architecture committee for possible technical presenters.

  • (big grin) Great meeting. Thank you everyone for your input!
