Meeting Minutes

  • The antitrust agreement was read and the minutes were approved.

  • Member Engagement: We let the committee know that we discussed member and board engagement at the last board meeting in New Orleans and will share information with the Marketing Committee at a future meeting.

  • CAPIS Avatar Contest: The Architecture Committee suggested creating a unique avatar/icon/image that we could use for the CIECA API Standards initiative and we are currently holding a contest for ideas. We will forward them have received very few responses, so we created a flyer and forwarded it to industry associations, including ASA, SCRS, AMi, I-CAR and CREF. We will forward the flyer to the Marketing Committee to look over at the close of the contest.

Member Engagement: Paul shared information about our 2022 member engagement initiative. This included the types of members and their tenure. In order for CIECA to grow and retain members, it’s important for the organization to remain relevant. The various industry segments have different needs: networking, standards, education, etc. We are currently looking at ways to create engagement products and make them easier to understand and utilize. Paul explained that the EMS was created for the Estimate. BMS is very complex so we are finding most companies are using EMS.

  • Melissa suggested putting together a flyer similar to the video that was created to show ROI. Paul compared it to a CIECA starter kit.

  • Paul mentioned that we are looking at developing CIECA training as well as a developer community. Chad asked about the developer community and Paul explained it is a user’s forum on Slack, which will be introduced to the industry in the fall after it gains momentum. We will create a communications plan to launch it to potential users. Rick suggested reaching out to developers to share information about CIECA.

  • Rick liked the presentation Paul shared.

  • Chad was asked what Allstate uses for standards and he replied that it is a multi-step approach and they partner with other companies that use the standards.

  • Melissa suggested implementing a “CIECA approves” feature.

  • Rick asked why members join and suggested focusing on those who need to be members to have access to the standards rather than the industry as a whole

in case anyone would like to share it.

  • CIECAST vs CIECACAST vs CIECA-CAST vs CIECA Webinar vs CIECAcast: We are finding that the pronunciation and spelling of CIECAST isn’t aligned and asked the Marketing Committee for feedback regarding spelling and names. The committee hadn’t considered that until we pointed it out now. Kelly likes CIECA-CAST. Although it’s longer to spell, it’s easier to say. Jeff suggested maybe creating a graphic for the word. Paul pointed out that we might want to keep the same name since people are familiar with it. We will come up with some different options/looks and share them with the committee during an upcoming meeting.

  • Marketing of CIECA CONNEX Conference: In addition to using social media, emails and press releases, we invited the committee for some additional ideas to market the CONNEX Conference and attract more business analysts/CTOs. Chad suggested reaching out to specific niche publications and associations from different segments of the industry eg towing, paint associations, heavy equipment, etc. We can ask board members which publication/association they receive information from.

    • Jeff suggested sharing information on social media from the sponsors and including the word “Join us at CONNEX.” We showed the committee the social media graphic Paul created for the speakers. Kelly suggested creating a similar one for the sponsors.

    • Kelly suggested implementing a referral program to attract more attendees.

    • Jeff said that typically, most developers never leave their desks. He asked if there will be a virtual option for the conference. Paul said it has been discussed in the past but the main obstacle is the high price. There is a possibility we will consider it next year if there is a full technical track of presentations.

Great meeting! (smile)
